Free Radicals and Normal Blood ...

Posted on: May 28, 2011 By: GuestPoster | 0 Comments
Diabetic and non-diabetic patients alike seek answers to queries such as what are normal blood sugar levels and how to maintain them.. Normal blood sugar levels are those levels that fall within range after a glucose testing. However, others still need answers to questions on what happens if their blood sugar level spikes up. Aside from the dangers of hypoglycemia which could be fatal, other complications might also occur and may affect the vital organs of the body. Even as the body systems transform food into glucose for energy, waste products which are referred to as free radicals are created and may also cause damage to the organs as well as to the tissues of the body. Fluctuating blood sugar levels can lead to devastating damage to the different organs of the body as the extra blood sugar combines with some proteins, collagen or enzymes and may react with the cellular DNA. Diabetic patients are at a higher risk when the body is exposed to more free radicals and other chemical reactions. Other effects may also include a faster rate in the aging process as free radicals rapidly react with other molecules that create a chain reaction in the long run. High glucose levels in blood increase the oxidation damage that is caused by free radicals. Knowing the answer to the question on what are normal blood sugar levels is not enough as diabetics and non-diabetics need to be able to keep their glucose levels within this specified range. Excess blood sugar contributes to the production of free radicals that may be harmful too. Antioxidant-rich foods should be included in the diet not only to maintain normal blood glucose levels but to fight the harmful free radicals in the body as well. Foods that have glow glycemic index are also recommended but proper exercise and healthy lifestyle should likewise be ... Read More

When diet, exercise and other medical weight loss methods fail to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, then going through surgery is may be the only way to treat serious obesity. They are also some people who will consider having liposuction surgery in order to lose some weight and have the easiest way to reshape their body. With the new methods available today, there are still concerns on how safe is liposuction can be. As long as the procedure involves surgery, there are always some risks to be considered. Bariatric surgery is relatively a new approach for treating obese people and is the only proven long-term treatment for clinically severe obesity. One type of weight loss surgery is known as a gastric bypass. Gastric bypass is minimally an invasive procedure that limits the size of the stomach and restructures the intestinal tract to restrict appetite and limit the calories the body can absorb. Gastric bypass surgery statistics shows that people who underwent this type of procedure are more successful in controlling their food intake. Since obesity is sometimes accompanied by some life threatening diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, strokes, hypertension, serious breathing disorders and circulation problems, the weight loss that results from bariatric surgery is probably the only way to avoid early death from weight related medical conditions. However, the end result can differ since it will ultimately depend on the individual’s post-surgical commitment for adopting new dieting plans or participating in a routine exercise programs. Since it is a surgical procedure, there are some people who are not qualified for the operation. For instance, if a person has a negative reaction to the anesthesia, he or she is disqualified. Bariatric surgery candidates must be morbidly obese, which usually means 100 pounds overweight for men or 80 pounds overweight for women. Always make sure you consult first with a qualified surgeon regarding your weight ... Read More

Studies have shown that there are three main types of brain vitamins that you should make a part of your daily life. These essential nutrients are guaranteed to boost up your memory retention, concentration and the entire well-being of your brain. The first one is called B Vitamins. These nutrients act as a protective shield for the neurons in your brain. They protect it from the harmful effects of toxins and wastes that may build up in your system. Vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and Folic Acid are some of the examples of B vitamins. They stimulate the production of red blood cells which are known to carry the needed oxygen in the brain. It’s very easy to make this type of vitamins for brain a part of your diet as there are many kinds of food that are rich in them. Spinach, strawberries, black beans and citrus fruits are just some of the things that make up the list. Antioxidants are also essential for the proper function of the brain. Examples of this are vitamin C and E. They are effective in eliminating the free radicals in your bloodstream. Free radicals are harmful toxins that may impair the neurons in your brain. By keeping a sufficient amount of antioxidant present in your body, you are also protecting the basic structures of your brain. Sweet potatoes, red tomatoes, broccoli, green tea and nuts are excellent sources of antioxidants. The third type is the infamous omega-3 fatty acid. Although this fatty acid is not really a kind of vitamin, it is an important kind of fat that can enrich your mental wellness. Unlike the bad fats, omega-3 fatty acid is beneficial to your health and body. It protects the brain from high cholesterol and inflammation. This is the reason why it is considered to be an essential brain nutrient. Good sources of this fatty acid include cold-water fishes and walnuts. A Natural Cure For Insomnia ...

Posted on: May 12, 2011 By: GuestPoster | 0 Comments
Insomnia is a medical condition characterized by lack of sleep for a prolonged period. The main causes of insomnia are stress at work, depression or an underlying medical condition. The best way of curing insomnia is by first, identifying the cause. If it is due to depression, then seek treatment from a doctor. A natural cure for insomnia proves by far to be the most effective remedy as far as side effects are concerned, without forgetting the cost benefits. Here are some of the ways in which we can alleviate this condition. First, ensure that you spend less time in bed. This will enable you to learn to appreciate the bed as a sleeping place and not a place to rest. Secondly, exercise regularly. Exercising is a very effective tool of combating insomnia. When you exercise, you subject yourself to bodily exhaustion which is a good catalyst for sleep. Exercise is also good for curing depression; in addition, exercises will help you burn excess calories in the body, which is the major cause of heart problems. Avoid watching television in the bed. Having a television in the bedroom creates the impression of a living room and this may keep you awake for long hours so that you can be entertained. Ensure that your bedroom has dim lighting, as bright lighting may also hinder you from sleeping. Before going to bed, engage yourself in a relaxing activity like watching the television, reading a newspaper article, or relaxing in the moonlight. You can also have a notepad beside your bed for writing down the things which are really bothering you. With these issues documented, you can now design a plan of action for sorting them out rather than worrying about them all night long. You should avoid alcohol before bedtime. Even though alcohol is a stimulant and a relaxer, you will find that though you sleep easily, you will always wake up the moment all the alcohol has been eliminated in the blood stream. Helpful Excercises for Whiplas ...

Posted on: May 04, 2011 By: GuestPoster | 0 Comments
Whiplash is one of the most common road vehicle accident injuries with over a million of cases happening every year. The term “whiplash” refers to the injury that affects the ligaments, muscles and tendons in the neck. It can be very irritating at times. At least 20% of the rear end collisions no matter how small are the accident result in a whiplash. The injury is a result of the quick jerking motion of the neck backward and forward. When the head moves backward beyond its normal range it is termed as hyper-extension, when it comes forward it is known as hyper-flexation. Initial whiplash symptoms include sore neck, headaches, tingling sensation and sore shoulders. Whiplash can also result in some very serious injuries such as the brain damage and sometimes memory loss as well. The whiplash neck injury may require physical therapy as well in a lot of  cases. Motion exercises which may be useful during the whiplash neck injury: Rotation of the head: Perform the rotation of the head in a gentle manner from left to right with 10-15 repetitions. Always start with a small angle and then try to extend further. Forward and backward bending of the head: Start slowly by bringing your chin towards the chest then come back to your initial position. Then bring your head and neck backwards such as to see the sky or the ceiling of the room. Repeat these steps 10-15 times. Sidewards bending of the head: Start slowly with bringing your left year towards your left shoulder. Repeat the same towards the right side. Start with minor movements and then try to extend the range of sidewards bending. Repeat these steps 10-15 times. These neck exercises if done daily or at least once in two days could definitely help in your speedy recovery from whiplash neck injury.   Health and wellness resources: Diets that work – Clean eating – Fat burning foods – Weight loss tips – How to lose belly fat – Reduce weight naturally – Quickest way to lose weight – Low calorie recipes – Lose weight in 2 weeks – Best exercise to lose weight – Tips to lose weight Business and insurance resources: Over 50 life insurance – Commercial insurance – Redundancy insurance – Building insurance – No exam life insurance – Life insurance over 50 – Private medical insurance Travel resources: A2B transfers – Cancellation holidays – Vacation packages – Broadway travel – Travel insurance over 70 – Global late deals – Holiday insurance – Holiday villas – Travel insurance for pre existing medical ... The Top 5 Tips to Lose Weight ...

Posted on: Feb 20, 2011 By: Steve | 0 Comments
I’ve written before about how I lost 42 pounds in a bit over 7 months, and have kept it off since then.  So I’m often asked for weight loss tips to help make the transition to a healthy lifestyle.  I’m happy to oblige, and have boiled my advice down to five tips to lose weight. My top 5 tips to lose weight Here they are, in priority order. Change your mindset. You’re not going on a “diet,” which would be a great way to lose a few pounds temporarily, then become fatter than ever after you fall off the wagon.  You’re embarking on a lifestyle change.  To be healthy, the rest of your life is going to be different.  Reconcile to that fact, and you’ll be set up for success.  On the other hand, if you begin with the idea of enduring discomfort long enough to lose some fat, you’re never going to get or stay healthy. Change what you eat, but don’t be afraid. Healthy food is delicious.  Check out our posts on fat burning foods and clean eating.  You’ll be surprised at how simple – and delicious – healthy eating really is.  Warning:  leave your preconceptions at the door. Enjoy your exercise. I do functional fitness (check out crossfit.com and militaryathlete.com) because it’s always challenging and it’s never the same thing from one day to the next.  I’m never bored, I always have fun competing against myself, and there’s always a new skill to learn.  If you get in an exercise rut doing the same thing over and over, odds are that you won’t last. Sleep. A healthy lifestyle requires sleep, period.  Every mammal must sleep, which is amazing when you consider that sleep is a dangerous activity when other animals are anxious to gobble you for dinner!  That’s evidence that sleep is exceptionally important, and it turns out that it’s necessary for the proper function of every single cell in your body. Relax. Reduce stress in your life.  Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, has been shown to cause additional midsection fat.  Meditation is a terrific method to reduce stress and improve your quality of life, and there are easy methods to learn how to meditate for beginners. It may sound a little bit daunting, but once you start following those five tips to lose weight and improve your overall health and fitness, I think you’ll find that a healthy lifestyle is an addicting proposition. Is there a best exercise to lo ...

Posted on: Feb 20, 2011 By: Steve | 0 Comments
What is the best exercise to lose weight? It’s a loaded question, one that presumes that there actually is a single “best” exercise to help you drop those unwanted pounds.  The truth is, while there are some exercises that absolutely won’t help you lose any weight whatsoever (abdominal crunches, for example), there isn’t a single, best exercise to help you drop excess fat. But there is an exercising approach that will help you maximize your body’s efficiency in all three major energy pathways, and help you lose weight by creating an efficient physical and biochemical system. Sound complicated?  It isn’t, really, though it’s helpful to go through a few metabolic basics. The best exercise to lose weight isn’t just one exercise There are three major energy conversion mechanisms that your body uses to transform chemical energy to mechanical (motion) energy. Very short burst. Your muscles use a chemical called ATP to generate motion.  There is some ATP already stored in your muscle cells, enough for about 10 seconds of energy.  Get good at this region by running sprints (just run as fast as you can run for 5″ to 10″, and repeat five to ten times.  Trust me, it’s plenty of exercise!) Medium burst. This is otherwise known as “anaerobic metabolism” because it doesn’t require oxygen.  In this pathway, your body converts carbohydrates to ATP, with lactic acid as a byproduct.  Lactic acid is what makes your muscles sore.  Target this metabolic region through strength training with moderate weight and high repetitions. Endurance, or aerobic activity. This is the energy pathway that uses oxygen, and is the endurance pathway that distance runners use.  You can tap into this as well by jogging a few miles, rowing a few thousand meters, etc. Vary your exercise routine so that you get work in each of the three major energy pathways, and you will find that your body responds to your demands with relatively rapid weight loss. Is it possible to lose weight ...

Posted on: Feb 20, 2011 By: Steve | 0 Comments
Should you try to lose weight in 2 weeks? If your long-term physical fitness plans have gone by the wayside, and you find yourself within a couple of weeks of an event for which you’d like to put your best self forward, you might be tempted to undertake a crash diet in an attempt to shrink down a couple of sizes for the big event. Be careful. While there are a number of diets that work temporarily to lose water weight, you’ll often end up worse off than you started, particularly if you drastically reduce caloric intake.  Food isn’t your enemy – it’s necessary for life, for energy, even for thought. The safest way to lose weight in 2 weeks By far, the safest way to lose weight in 2 weeks is simply to undertake the lifestyle changes required for long-term fitness and health.  Don’t to anything crazy for two weeks that you wouldn’t want to do for the rest of your life.  Don’t follow any bizarre weight loss tips, and don’t begin with the idea that you’re going to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks.  You’re not going to accomplish this, nor would you want to.  You’d exit that grueling two-week period haggard, exhausted, and feeling anything but healthy no matter how baggy your pants might be – temporarily. How does a healthy lifestyle look?  Here are five tips. Exercise. Four to five times per week is best.  Vary your exercise routine so it’s never actually routine.  Mix in endurance training (run a couple of miles), strength training, short-burst high-intensity workouts (see crossfit.com), flexibility exercises (stretching and yoga), and new sports. Cut out sugar. It’s the single biggest cause of obesity in America today.  The term “white death” isn’t an exaggeration. Reduce processed carbohydrates and starches. Breads really aren’t that healthy for you.  They contain gluten, a natural defense mechanism employed by wheat, oats, and other grains used in breads.  Also reduce your potato and rice intake. Sleep. Your body craves sleep, and cannot function properly without it.  It’s a useful mechanism for stress reduction, and it’s been demonstrated that cortisol (the primary stress hormone) is a cause of excess midsection fat. Reduce stress. Guided imagery meditation techniques for beginners is a terrific way to enjoy a more relaxed mental state.  Stress reduction sounds unrelated to weight loss, but the two are inextricably linked. It’s best not to try to lose all your weight in 2 weeks.  Instead, focus on generating healthy habits for life.
